Mint shut down on March 23, 2024. Intuit pointed former users to Credit Karma. Credit Karma is a credit-score and card-offer product. It does not restore Mint’s budgets, transaction categories, or the net-worth chart. That is the only role Credit Karma plays here.

After the shutdown, most Mint alternative articles recommend another bank-sync app on a subscription: Monarch Money, Quicken Simplifi, YNAB, or Empower. Those are reasonable when you want transactions pulled in and categorized. They are the wrong slot if what you used Mint for was a picture of what you own, and you do not want to hand a new company your bank logins.

This page sorts tools by that job, then lines up cost, bank sync, budgeting, net worth, and where the data lives. Rialzo is the private balance sheet: monthly snapshots, more than one currency, a free forever core, and Pro as a one-time lifetime purchase. It does not sync banks, and it is not a budget app.

How to choose a Mint alternative

Pick the job you actually need. Each job below names the tools that fit. The recommendation stays on this page — nothing is sent anywhere.

Privacy, data on my computer

Rialzo. Monthly balances stay in a local file. You do not connect a bank.

Fits: Rialzo.

No subscription

Empower’s personal dashboard, Goodbudget’s free tier, a spreadsheet, or Rialzo’s free forever plan. Rialzo Pro, if you want it, is a one-time purchase. Check current pricing on the paid plans.

Fits: Empower, Goodbudget / Rocket Money, Spreadsheet, Rialzo.

More than one currency

Rialzo keeps a currency on each asset and locks the exchange rate on that month’s snapshot. Some cloud apps include extra currencies only on certain plans — check before you assume.

Fits: Rialzo.

Strict budgeting

YNAB. It is a zero-based budget method, not a Mint clone. Rialzo will not do this job.

Fits: YNAB.

Free cloud net worth

Empower’s personal dashboard. It links accounts, and the net-worth view is the reason people stay. Budgeting is light.

Fits: Empower.

Shared household budget

Monarch is the usual household bank-sync app. Goodbudget shares envelope budgets. Rialzo is a single-user desktop ledger, not a shared cloud budget.

Fits: Monarch Money, Goodbudget / Rocket Money.

Quick picks

Best overall Mint-like (cloud): Monarch Money

The closest full replacement if you want bank connections, categories, a net-worth view, and a household login. It is a subscription. Check current pricing before you treat an older review as the bill.

Best free cloud net worth: Empower

The personal dashboard is the usual free cloud net-worth chart, with account linking. Budgeting is light. Wealth-management offers are a separate product with their own terms.

Best for changing spending habits: YNAB

Zero-based budgeting with a method behind it, not a Mint clone. Use it when the goal is to give every dollar a job. It is a subscription. Check current pricing.

Best cheap Mint-like: Quicken Simplifi

Bank sync, a spending plan, and a net-worth view in a simpler package than Monarch. Still a subscription. Check current pricing — older “cheap annual” quotes go stale.

Best local, one-time, private net worth: Rialzo

Monthly balance snapshots on your Mac or Windows PC, in more than one currency, with no bank connection. The core tracker is free forever. Pro is a one-time lifetime purchase. Pro can also run a native MCP server on localhost for your own AI client. That part is optional.

Best spreadsheet path: Google Sheets or Excel

A workbook you own. No subscription and no bank login, and no charts or exchange-rate locking until you build them. A Rialzo net-worth spreadsheet template is planned. This page will not link it until that page exists.

Rialzo, without the pitch

Rialzo is a desktop net-worth tracker. You type balances about once a month. It does not log into your bank, and it does not categorize transactions.

What it does well

  • Monthly snapshots of account balances, so net worth is a curve instead of a single day.
  • A currency on each asset, with the exchange rate locked to that month’s snapshot. The app includes 15 base currencies.
  • Free forever for the core tracker (up to 10 assets and 180 days of history). Pro is a one-time lifetime purchase: unlimited assets, full history, and a few extras. The dollar amount lives on the pricing section.
  • No bank or card credentials. Balances stay in a file on your computer. An exchange-rate lookup, when you use one, sends currency codes only — not amounts.
  • Native desktop app for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows x64. There is no Linux build and no phone app.

What it does not do

  • No automatic bank or credit-card sync, and no transaction categories.
  • Not envelope budgeting, and not a system that coaches you on spending.
  • Not mobile-first. Checking the numbers means opening the desktop app.
  • Installers are unsigned. macOS Gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen warn the first time you open the app. The Mac override we document is on the FAQ. There is no separate SmartScreen guide on this site.
  • Pro license activation is online. The app verifies the license with rialzo.app. This is not an offline-only license. The free tier does not need a license code.

Gatekeeper steps on the FAQ

Who Rialzo is not for

Skip Rialzo if any of these are the actual requirement.

  • You need automatic bank and credit-card sync, with transactions already categorized.
  • You want zero-based budgeting and a method that coaches spending. Use YNAB.
  • You only have Linux. There is no Linux build.
  • You will not click through the Gatekeeper or SmartScreen warning on first install.
  • You need a shared household budget in the cloud. Rialzo is a single-user desktop ledger.

Moving off Mint

  1. Export whatever you can still download from Mint: account lists, balances, and transactions. Do it while the export exists.
  2. Rebuild net worth as monthly snapshots — one balance per account, once a month — instead of replaying every transaction.
  3. Revoke old bank and card connections at the institution. Removing the dead app does not always remove the bank’s side of the link.
  4. If the next tool is a spreadsheet or Rialzo, you type the balances yourself. You do not give it a bank login.

Questions about Mint alternatives

What happened to Mint?

Mint shut down on March 23, 2024. Intuit told users to move to Credit Karma. Credit Karma focuses on credit scores, card offers, and credit monitoring. It does not replace Mint’s budgets, categories, or the net-worth chart. If you still need those jobs, you have to pick a different tool. This page is that comparison.

What is the best free Mint alternative?

There is no single free app that is also a full Mint clone. Empower’s personal dashboard is the usual free cloud net-worth view, with bank connections and Empower’s own terms. If you want the numbers on your computer and no bank login, use a spreadsheet or Rialzo’s free forever plan. Rialzo does not pull transactions.

Is there a Mint alternative without a subscription?

Yes. Empower’s consumer dashboard is free. Goodbudget has a free manual envelope tier. A spreadsheet costs nothing but your time. Rialzo’s core tracker is free forever, and Pro is an optional one-time lifetime purchase rather than a renewal. Monarch, YNAB, and Simplifi are subscriptions. Check their current pricing before you commit.

Does Rialzo replace Mint’s budgeting?

No. Mint categorized transactions and helped you budget against them. Rialzo records monthly balance snapshots: what each account is worth, in its own currency, so you can see net worth over time. It does not import bank transactions or run envelope budgets. For zero-based budgeting, use YNAB or another budget app.

Is Rialzo safe if Mint taught me not to trust cloud apps?

Your ledger stays in a file on your computer. Rialzo does not ask for bank logins, and it does not store your balances on our servers. Pro license activation is online: the app checks the license with rialzo.app. The installers are unsigned, so macOS Gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen warn on first launch. The Gatekeeper steps we document are in the site FAQ.

Can I use Rialzo on Mac and Windows?

Yes. Rialzo runs on macOS for Apple Silicon and for Intel Macs, and on Windows x64. There is no Linux build. It is a desktop app, not a phone app, so it is a poor fit if you only check numbers on mobile. Download the installer that matches your machine.
